This is the time of the year where I plan my future months, I talk about the projects, schedule time for conferences, essentially I get organized. Last week I have been inundated by the usual ton of posts about new year resolution: I will do this, this and that. I am against this practice because for me it creates false expectations and eventually stress. Of the projects I realized in 2010 (see below) only one went (almost) as planned and I think this is true also for resolutions. So instead of asking myself “who I will be in 2011?” I ask: “who have I been in 2010?” In a way this is therapeutic, especially for freelancers who sometimes feel like “things don’t go on”. Moreover I think that it is easier to foresee your future when you know better your past.
So here is my list. I am satisfied with what I did in 2010 and I look forward to live 2011.
- Wrote a book.
- Designed and developed an iPad application
- Created an iPhone/iPad application
- Worked for Stylefeeder
- Wrote a series of tutorials on Adobe Air
- Created my portfolio
- Attended a conference
- Developed an iPhone app for a private freelancer network (can’t disclose)
- Prototyped an iPad app for a sales force company (can’t disclose)
- Developed Undrcult
- Prototyped an iPhone application for an online tv (can’t disclose)
What’s on your list? I encourage you to write it down. It is a really good therapy and bodes well for the future.
Nice article.
I often get far too bogged down in lists which then almost rule my life and I underachieve.
I function better with a broad overview type of list that allows me to factor in variety and diversity.
I am curious. You have n items on the overview list. You wake up in the morning. Which item to do you choose and why?
Fantastic accomplishments and goals!
